Why We Fight…
In 2018, Marguerite and Mikaela were both training for the New York City Marathon. Halfway into the training in August of 2018, Marguerite was unexpectedly diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Due to egg freezing, surgery, and chemotherapy Marguerite was unable to accomplish her goal. Mikaela decided to run the marathon in her honor and raised money for the Foundation for Women’s Cancer.
Marguerite was declared cancer-free in 2019 but a few months later in May, Mikaela was diagnosed with breast cancer. With no family history, this was another shock to the Rix family.
Marguerite wanted to do something in return to show her support and the idea for For All Who Fight was born. With the help of Pure Barre Garden City, we hosted fundraiser classes and raised over $10,000 for The Foundation for Women’s Cancer and Memorial Sloan Kettering Breast Cancer Research where Mikaela was treated. In 2020 following our 1st Annual “Virtual” Walk we raised over $75,000 for the Young Women with Breast Cancer Program (YWBC) at Memorial Sloan Kettering
2022 we kept the tradition going and hosted the 3rd annual FAWF walk. Additionally, we partnered with Whispering Wings who hosted a Celebration of Life gala. We were able to raise over 100,000 for breast and cancer research. In 2023, FAWF along with the Garden City Real Estate Professionals Foundation hosted “Cocktails for a Cause.” We also had runners in the NYCRUNS Brooklyn Half Marathon in partnership with NYU Langone where Marguerite was treated. Through those partnerships, we have been able to raise awareness about breast and ovarian cancer and connect with survivors and supporters of their cancer battle.
Over the past 4 years, we have been lucky enough to form a partnership with Fred’s Team through MSK and have had runners participate in the 2021-2024 marathon. In 2023, Marguerite officially accomplished her goal of running the NYC Marathon. Not to let her sisters take all the spotlight, their younger sister Morgayne ran the NYC Marathon in November of 2024.
While our mission is rooted in raising money for breast and ovarian cancer research we know that every person whether it be a patient, caretaker, supporter, etc. has their own specific fight. Thank you for the continued support in making the growth as an organization possible. We hope by spreading awareness and encouraging education and early detection, we will one day find a cure for breast and ovarian cancers!
OUR MISSION
We beat our cancers and now we fight for those who lost the fight, who won the fight, those still fighting, and those who are unaware of the fight that lies ahead.
